BJP MP from Vizag K. Hari Babu on 8th September said that he would try
to get a new campus of National Institute of Pharmaceutical Educational
Research (NIPER) located in the port city.
The MP promised to work towards this goal after K. Srinivas Rao, The
Managing Director of Indian Institute of Biotechnology Pvt Ltd, which is
located at Hyderabad based NIPER campus, said that the expansion of the
premier pharma centre in Hyderabad got stuck due to non-availability of
land.“ NIPER’s plans to expand its base in Hyderabad for which Rs 400
crore was made available got stuck owing to non-availability of 50 acres
land in and around Hyderabad,” Mr Srinivas Rao said at an interactive
session between pharmaceutical academia-industry at Andhra University.
According to APIIC officials, 100 acres of land is available with APIIC
and the required land could be allocated to the pharma centre. There are
seven of NIPERS across India, including the one in Hyderabad. The
premier institutes offer a range of courses in pharmaceutical sciences
and have some of the best labs, and are known for producing quality
students.
