The
exercise for establishment of the proposed Petroleum University in East
Godavari district began on Saturday with two-member central team
visiting many places in Kakinada and Rajah-mundry. The team consisting
of the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology director Dr.G.J
Gupta and project advisor S.P. Mathur on Saturday visited the areas.
Dr
Gupta told the media that the classes would commence from next academic
year in the month of July/August. He said that initially the classes
will be commence in temporary buildings. He said that the University
will be built in three years time. Gupta said that the report would be
submitted to the union government on proposed university in Andhra
Pradesh. He said that in Assam Rajiv Gandhi Petroleum University was
also conducting petroleum courses.
Joint
engineering ent-rance examination wou-ld be conducted for students for
admission into these courses. He said that East Godavari district was
suitable for establishment of Petr-oleum University and all resources
were available in the district for the same. He said that the Union
government was keen about the University and it will be under the Union
Ministry of Petroleum.
The
team visited the buildings at government ITI at Kakinada, 55 acres of
site at Chollangi village in Tallarevu mandal, government lands at
Diwa-nchervu village in Rajanagaram mandal, Jegurupadu in Kadium mandal,
NAC center at Bommuru (13 acres), Godavari Institute of Engineering and
Technology, Gover-nment Arts College, Adikavi Nannayya Uni-versity and
others.
Rajahmundry
sub-collector V. Vijayarama Raju and the district joint collector R.
Muthyala Raju expl-ained in details about the availability of lands and
also availability of buildings for temporary accommodation.
Dr
Gupta said that their team was studying the availability of buildings,
library, recruitment of teaching and non-teaching faculty and others.
The officials said that there were vast resources in the district such
as oil explorations under Krishna Godavari basin which will be useful to
the students.
