This
year, Urdu syllabus and examination schedule are missing from the
diaries of CBSE students. Officials admit the syllabus couldn't be
printed as translation hasn't even begun.
"The
syllabus and annual examination schedule of Urdu language is printed in
diaries published by Delhi Bureau of Text Books. Unfortunately, this
year, it hasn't been printed. Online support material is also missing
from the official website of DoE," said Asad Ghazi of Nawa-e-haque
welfare association.
Ghazi
said when he requested officials to upload the support material and
distribute handouts of the syllabus, they had no answer.
Shashi
Kaushal, managing director of Delhi Bureau of Text Books said, "The
material never reached us for printing. If anyone is at fault, it is
from the education department." Department officials admitted that the
Urdu syllabus couldn't be sent for printing, though all other subjects
were. "The course has seen many changes and the syllabus couldn't be
made as it had to be done week-wise. Even the books became available
recently and the kids started a bit late on Urdu. Once the syllabus is
ready, we will give it for printing," said a senior official. Even if it
is completed and approved, new diaries with the syllabus will not be
re-printed. "We will upload the material online and also give
printouts," said the official.
Ghazi
said material for all other subjects was provided. "In some schools,
kids aren't even taught Urdu as there are no teachers or maybe they
don't want to recruit them. There is some conspiracy. Every year, the
syllabus is provided and only this year it hasn't been translated yet.
The department could've easily hired a translator from outside."
Officials maintain that there is no conspiracy and shortage of staff is a
general problem — even in other languages like Sanskrit.
