IAS Main 2014 will be the Mahakhumbh of the Civil Services due to
several reasons. It is expected to commence from 14 December 2014. We
are calling this as Mahakumbh because of two reasons. Firstly the number of vacancies is the largest in the recent past and secondly the number of candidates competing for the aforesaid same will also be huge.
From IAS Main(Written) 2013 the
exam Pattern has changed and the IAS Main exam is a five day affair
now. This year the IAS Main(Writtten) 2014 will start from 14
December,2014.The Total of Nine Papers will be conducted during the IAS
Main(Written) Examination and out of which only Seven will be counted
for the Final Merit. The IAS Main (written) Exam 2014 consist of the
following Papers.
Qualifying Papers:
Paper-A
(One of the Indian Language to be selected by the candidate from the
Languages included in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution) 300 Marks
Paper-B
English 300 Marks
These papers are of qualifying in nature.
Papers to be counted for merit
Paper-I Essay 250 Marks
Paper-II General Studies-I 250 Marks
(Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of the World and Society)
Paper-III General Studies -II 250 Marks
(Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International relations)
Paper-IV General Studies -III 250 Marks
(Technology, Economic Development, Bio-diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management)
Paper-V General Studies -IV 250 Marks
(Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude)
Paper-VI
Optional Subject - Paper 1 250 Marks
Paper-VII
Optional Subject - Paper 2 250 Marks
Candidates may choose any one of the optional subject from amongst the list of subjects given in the IAS Exam 2014 Notification
It is worth Mentioning here that the papers on Indian languages and English (Paper A and Paper B) will
be of Matriculation or equivalent standard and will be of qualifying
nature. The marks obtained in these papers will not be counted for
ranking.
The Total of the IAS Main (Written) Exam 2014 will be 1750 Marks. The
IAS Main Personality Test will be conducted on the Basis of the Result
of the IAS Main(written) Exam 2014 and will commence somewhere in April
2015.
Importance of Qualifying Papers
It is Mentiioned in the Notifiaction itself that the "evaluation of
the papers, namely, Essay, General Studies and Optional Subject of all
the candidates would be done simultaneously along with evaluation of
their qualifying papers on 'Indian Languages' and 'English' but the
papers on Essay, General Studies and Optional Subject of only such
candidates will be taken cognizance who attain 30% marks in Indian Language and 25% marks in English as minimum qualifying standards in these qualifying papers".
The Minimum qualifying marks for the Paper A will be 90 Marks and for Paper B will be 75 Marks as both the papers are of 300 Marks.
The Personality Test will be of 275 Marks which will make the total of IAS Main Exam to 2025.
